Even though Steve Prefontaine technically didn’t hit puberty till 13 like the rest of us, legend has it he emerged from the womb with a little peach fuzz growing on his upper lip.

His ‘stache helped him pass for a legit 16 year old driver when he was 7, and it was thick enough to help him vote for JFK in the 1960 election at the age of 9.

If he’d been wise enough to run in The Dirty Dash to give his whiskers a thorough coating of mud, he could have been dropping Hamiltons on the craps table at the Three Rivers Casino when he was 12, received his PhD in Curly Locks at 17, and run for Pre-sident by 20. The one missing ingredient: MUD.

Don’t let your life get stuck on the slow boat cuz of your own dirt drought, filth famine, or slop shortage. You’ve got big pants to fill and you aren’t gonna fill ‘em wearing padded spandex tri shorts, swimming through crystal clear waters and road racing for 13 miles of pavement pounding agony. The only way you fulfill your dirty destiny is by belly-flopping into a mud pit and breast-stroking your way to a mud makeover courtesy of The Dirty Dash

Unlike most races where you emerge a little leaner but with labored breathing and a lifeless look in your eye, you’ll finish our race 5 pounds heavier, 3 times homelier, and 20 times happier. You’ll be Tweeting about it so loud the Ducks will think it’s a mating call.

So make Pre proud. Throw pre-caution to the wind and pre-pare yourself cuz this is pre-cisely the ingredient your life is missing. This all pre-supposes that you pre-register but we'd hate to be pre-sumptuous.

Preferred Accommodations

Coming Soon!

Parking

Parking for The Dirty Dash will be at lots at Mt. Pisgah.  Parking attendants will direct you where to park.  Plan on arriving at least 45 minutes to 1 hour early to avoid parking or traffic issues and for as much as you love gas prices, we strongly recommend CARPOOLING—PLEASE, PLEASE CARPOOL.

AND BRING YOUR ID.  For those over 21 interested in making the trail a bit harder to follow, we’ve got the Beer Chug Obstacle (or root beer for those who don’t want to drink or who are under 21—either way, the foam goes straight to your brain).

HOWEVER, in order to get a beer when you get to the obstacle, you ABSOLUTELY MUST get a wristband at the event before your wave starts by showing your ID.  No ID = No Wristband = No Beer.

Photos

We don’t want you to destroy your latest, greatest electronic devices during the race so we’ll have photographers from Flo-Foto present taking pictures throughout the race as well as at the finish line.  Photos will be available a couple days after the race for pretty ‘durn’ affordable prices and are searchable by bib number or last name.  Click HERE to go to their site.

If you want to go it alone, we recommend a good buddy trotting along side you, a zip lock bag to keep your camera safe and mud free, and slow shutter speeds.

Showers

We will have a way for you to clean off—they may be cold showers with hundreds of other Dirty Dashers but at least you won’t have to worry about your car on the drive home.

Shoe Donation

Let’s be frank: your shoes are going to be a muddy mess after the race and if you want to do some good rather than taking hours with a toothbrush to clean them off, don’t even bother cleaning them one bit cuz our charities will be accepting shoe donations by the showers.  All of these shoes will be used to help the less fortunate in the US and in developing countries.

Piglet Plunge

The Piglet Plunge will be the highlight of your child's summer, their storied running careers and potentially their existence to this point. They must be over age 2 and under age 12 to run in the kids' race and you’ve got to accompany them the whole way.

The Piglet Plunge will be about 1 mile and will include some of the best obstacles to ensure a thoroughly muddy child: the Slop n' Slide, the Hog Wash and the Pig Sty. All children must be respectful of other children, pushing or splashing will result in being removed from the kids' race area for the day and subject to grounding at their parents’ discretion.

You’ll need to sign a waiver for them before they receive a sweet Dirty Dash Tattoo (temporary of course) to show that they can participate on race day. The Piglet Plunge will begin at 3:00 pm (80 minutes after the final adult wave starts).
